I give up...

I'm done with people that don't want to look at the past and use it to help them see what could happen in the future. I'm done with people suggesting that if I don't like it I should leave. I'm done with people thinking that because I believe that history (which has repeated itself and I'd bet money that it will again) is a predictor of future behavior, that it would be a good time to "talk" (it's a message board) in a condescending way to me. I've offered to eat crow in two years. I've suggested that I'd love to be at their ribbon-cutting ceremony. Sadly, I feel very strongly that, in two years, I'll have to take the high road and not put the word out to all of them that they're a bunch of flippin' idiots, and then dredge up old posts where I could say, "see, stupidass? what did I say? And what actually happened?"

Fucktards.

Gotta be on my game...

In a manner of speaking.

We're having our first real board meeting for football tomorrow night. It means staying in town after work and, in fact, staying AT work, cuz that's where the meeting will be.

I need to get some agendas out, some financial info... Who was the brain-child that thought running two clubs in tandem was a good idea? Sheesh! It would be one thing if they didn't have parallel seasons! I suppose the good news, such that it is, is that doing for one reminds me that it needs to be done for the other!

Need to send myself a reminder to prop the door open (it automatically locks at 5p); order pizza; stop and get add'l beverages on my way to work. Oh. And stop at the local comeoffmeshop and buy a pound of ground coffee for my boyfriend. Hmmm...maybe I'll treat myself to a cup of hot chocolate and put it on his tab! After all, I deserve it!

Another Blog Challenge from Stacy...

Favorite/Memorable/Noted for Recipe(s)

My mom used to make oatmeal clusters. Loved those cookies. I remember Uncle Tim bbq'ing chicken legs and that crispy skin (neither of my parents ever bbq'd). When I was in high school, a friend of my dad's made chicken and dumplings. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I don't know if it was "the times" or what, but I do recall eating a lot of "Joe's Special" (made by my mom, scrambled egg, spinach, and onion maybe?), and when I lived with my dad, I made a lot of Hamburger Helper. My dad would fry bologna.

And then my world changed. I went to nanny for a single dad and his son. John taught me how to make manicotti. He was a vegetarian, so we ate a lot of pasta and meatless things. When he was due to be gone for dinner, Sean and I would have fried pork chops and mashed potatoes!

As an adult, my "signature" dessert is carmelitas. If we go to a bbq or a party, I'm asked to bring that and/or pasta salad. One of the things I love to eat is chicken/broccoli/rice casserole. Today while I was making it, I was thinking the next time I cook, it needs to be tacos.

It's a cold winter night. Fire going in the wood stove, and chicken/broccoli/rice casserole on the menu. Yum yum!

I have a friend in Texas who not only has the biggest heart, she is very good at thought-provoking stuff in addition to her many other creative talents! She suggested blogging about the Top 10 Moments of 2007. I'm not sure I can come up with 10, cuz I was so busy with one of them, most of my time was occupied! So, I'll say, in no particular order, these would be mine:

1. Darren and Stacy visiting Cali in January - I put new toilet seats on in their honor.

2. Scrapbooking retreat w/my customers to a local B&B.

3. Scrapbooking retreat w/my customers at my "boyfriend's" house near Donner Lake.

4. Flying, alone, to Vermont for Skippy and Leah's wedding, and having Norm and Leaner drive up from MA to hang out with me the day before the wedding.

5. Taking my boy to Massachusetts to visit friends and family, show him some of the places his dad and I used to hang out as well as the first house we bought, then 2.5 great days in Boston (Go Sox! Go Pats!), DH's arrival, and us spending a long weekend with my cousins at their home on Cape Cod.

6. BIL/SIL and kids in Cali for 10 days.

7. Launch of the newest youth football and cheer organization in the area - and meeting some really great people along the way.

8. Getting a paying gig with my "boyfriend" instead of just doing sports organizations with him.

9. That paying gig of mine either leading to or simply coinciding with DH being less antsy about his job/money.

10. Christmas Day spent at home, playing Scrabble and drinking hot buttered rum with my mom, not having any place to go, after Christmas Eve having everyone here for dinner.

Four nights...

DS(12) will be gone on a school field trip for four nights. The office manager at work has a son that will also be gone (her DH is chaperoning), and a son home from college for one more week. Methinks I may work more days this week so she can hang with her older son and DD, which isn't a bad thing, but it would be nice to have at least one day home alone! It would be even nicer if I knew what day that would be so I could call the blind guy and have him come out and clean my mini-blinds. Gah. They. are. FILTHY!!

I think DH and I may go to dinner a few times and perhaps a movie. Ahhhh...dinner at a place without a drive-thru, and a movie that can have an 'R' rating!

Wheeee!!

How stupid do you have to be...

To have your sprinkler system set to "on".

And it's raining outside.

Well, not right now, but this a.m. when I went for a walk there was one house with the sprinklers on and a heavy mist. It's been raining on/off for the past week. Record weather. Like, make National news and those fuckwits have the water on.

'Tis true. You can't fix stupid.

No free time this week.

Four letter word: w. o. r. k.

Dang. All that time off during Christmas break is being felt! Typically, I work 2, maybe 3 days a week. Sometimes it's only once. But I never know. And that is tough for someone that is a planner! But this week? All day. Every day. So far.

And then get home to:

Monday my mom was here (no power at her house on Sunday), so I had to take her home. Which meant we went to dinner first. By the time we (Boy Genius and I) got home, it was about 8:30. And we heard a terrible crashing noise, but couldn't see what it was.

Tuesday, 7:00. Crashing noise figured out. garage door spring had sprung, and that door was. not. going to budge. DH and a friend were on a golf trip, in our truck. Spot's truck and my car in the garage. Trapped. DH's "commuter" car was in the drive. Off we went to the bus stop. Then I worked all dang day again, barely slipping into the bank at 5:00:05p to make deposits for work. Home to find the garage door repair man here (he's from Maine - miss that Yankee accent!). By the time he left, DH got home, and we did something about dinner, it was nearly 8p.

Wednesday (that's today): Remembered to pick up the Beast from the dog groomer. Oh. My. She is SOOO purrrrrrrrrrrrrdy! And she knows it! She had her hair, teeth, and nails done (methinks a day at the groomer would be a good thing for me too!), but we didn't get home 'til almost 6p. There was homework, laundry, and dinner to deal with.

Thursday: gotta work again! Maybe I can just do what's in MY in-box and leave early! Except I love the people I work with. We've all been in the office the past two days. The time goes by so fast when they're there. Filling up my in-box.

DH will like it on pay-day!

Must be the eating...

I've been watching what I eat.

Until last night.

It was a cold winter night, and we were at Mimi's. The bread was warm, and the muffin was SCREAMIN' hot.

I loaded up on bread.

I've been working on flushing it from my system today. It's a long way from my desk to the restroom! (hey! I need to wear my pedometer and see exactly how far it is!)

The first step...

Well...turns out there are just over 3300 steps in the walking route that I took this a.m. I need to get outta the house earlier and do that loop at least twice, or figure out one long one that will get me to 6k+ steps. I think the other walking I do during the day will get me to 10k steps.

I'm actually enjoying walking in the brisk darkness of morning. Walked in the rain a couple of times, and even that wasn't bad. I think this walking thing can be classified as a "habit". Now, if I could only get in the "habit" of taking my lunch to work! Well, and decreasing portion size no matter what meal it is!

We knew it was coming...

Here's a PSA...take care of yourself.

That means, don't drink and don't smoke yourself to death.

A friend of ours (DH used to work with him) passed away this evening. He was in his early 50's, with two kids. One of his visitors recently said (paraphrased), "he had a great time. He enjoyed his life." He was the guy that only added coke to his Bacardi to give it a splash of darker color. Even in his final days, he'd go outside and smoke. Whenever I saw him, he always seemed happy and like someone that had a great life. I'm thinking that deep down, he had some demons and all of that Bacardi and all of those cigarettes helped keep those demons at bay. Until his liver and kidneys failed.

DH went to see him on two occasions recently. He said there really wasn't anything recognizeable about him...except, maybe, a wisp of hair. I so get that people avoid that which is uncomfortable for them, but I wish a couple of people (one for sure) would have gone to see him last week. I hope he doesn't have any regrets. I know DH is disappointed that this friend didn't go for a visit.

DH has been struggling. I'm sure that, now that his friend is gone, there will be more struggles for him. He's not very outward with his feelings

I suspect that later this week we'll be attending a funeral. A funeral for a life that was cut short purely by self-destruction.

Take care of your SELF.

Nothing since August???

Holy cow! I knew it had been a long time since I posted here, but 5 months? Yikes!

I've been thinking about getting back to blogging, and today may be the day that will go down in history! My favorite site on the internets has made some changes that literally make me sick and I've been told the changes are here to stay so I have to get used to them. I just spent about 25 minutes there, trying to get used to the new colors, and I feel like I might throw up. I've eaten two tums, and if this headache doesn't go away soon, I'll have some ibuprofen and hope that my eyes will unfuzz so I can at least finish this post.

It's a sad day to be sure. I'm going to miss a lot of people and their points of view on so many topics. I can't get into e-mail discussions with them all cuz, quite frankly, I don't think that any of us have THAT much free time. Much easier posting on a message board. I think I can stand it long enough to go there to get a "blog challenge" every now and then. Otherwise, whomever is reading this drivel may be subjected to my 'to do' list. Which, come to think of it, if I'm not on the message board as much, that should free up a considerable amount of time!
