We knew it was coming...

Here's a PSA...take care of yourself.

That means, don't drink and don't smoke yourself to death.

A friend of ours (DH used to work with him) passed away this evening. He was in his early 50's, with two kids. One of his visitors recently said (paraphrased), "he had a great time. He enjoyed his life." He was the guy that only added coke to his Bacardi to give it a splash of darker color. Even in his final days, he'd go outside and smoke. Whenever I saw him, he always seemed happy and like someone that had a great life. I'm thinking that deep down, he had some demons and all of that Bacardi and all of those cigarettes helped keep those demons at bay. Until his liver and kidneys failed.

DH went to see him on two occasions recently. He said there really wasn't anything recognizeable about him...except, maybe, a wisp of hair. I so get that people avoid that which is uncomfortable for them, but I wish a couple of people (one for sure) would have gone to see him last week. I hope he doesn't have any regrets. I know DH is disappointed that this friend didn't go for a visit.

DH has been struggling. I'm sure that, now that his friend is gone, there will be more struggles for him. He's not very outward with his feelings

I suspect that later this week we'll be attending a funeral. A funeral for a life that was cut short purely by self-destruction.

Take care of your SELF.
