It's A Girl!

Two and a half hours sleep could wreak havoc. However, it was worth it!

My niece was due 3/27. No baby. She had an appointment yesterday. No dilation. Scheduled her next dr appointment for 4/3. That appointment can be canceled!

Baby Celeste joined our world this morning at 1:25 a.m. She weighed in at 7lbs 10oz, and 20 inches long. Her dear Great Uncle says he's had turds bigger than that!

Mother and baby are fine. Auntie sees the baby department in her future. And how convenient is it that the Lands End Kid's catalog arrived yesterday?!

Disconnected...

I know I'm on the computer a lot.

Nothing will validate that fact more than not being able to be on it when you want to!

For now, I seem to be back in business, on the laptop (not the desktop) with all of my documents that I can send out. The rest of the soccer club will be SO happy!

Get off my damn phone...

I have caller ID on my house phone. I. Love. It. My phone also keeps a listing of numbers that have called. Yesterday I didn't answer the phone. Didn't want to talk to the caller. She called TEN times. TEN FRIGGIN' TIMES!!! Both from her house (it comes up 'private caller') and her cell phone. I knew what she was going to ask me about. Didn't want to talk to her about it.

I finally talked to her this morning (yeah, 7:20 phone rings, 'private caller'). Figured I needed to take the call and get her off me for a while! I love having her talk to me, and bark out orders to her kids so they'll get loaded up in the truck for school. Ugh.

I hate the phone. I only have it for MY convenience. E-mail me. You'll likely not only get ahold of me, you're more apt to get a response!

Halfway...

I've had a bee in my bonnet for weeks now. I've wanted to repaint our room with darker colors. Originally a very pale lavender (Martha Stewart's 'Veronica') and a light cream color (MS 'Sand Dollar'). The toilet/shower area is 'Veronica' and the dressing area is 'Farm Fresh' (a green that looks like guacamole). When you walk in the room, the back wall with the window is 'Veronica'. That color goes up over the top of the closets/plant shelves, then down the wall where my closet door and the door to the toilet/shower are.

Well. That was true yesterday! That wall with the doors and the area above the closets/plant shelves is now Behr's 'Peruvian Violet'. I stopped in that corner and chose to not to the wall with the window cuz it. is. so. dark. I love it! I started with Sherwin-Williams' 'Basket Beige' and it too is dark. I knew it would be as we painted it at Jeff and Eve's last weekend. I love the contrast of the two colors. Only thing that seems VERY different is that the room looks much smaller now!

Anyhoo, I've made it to the edge of the bed. As soon as the Lord of the Manor arises, I'll go about moving the furniture and prepping the baseboards. I think I got the purple covered, so I can clean up my tools, but I'll wait and look later as the light changes in the room.

I think I'll go up on the 'Basket Beige' paint chip a couple notches and get paint to do the hallway!

I'm so vein...

I did it. I call the vein doctor the other week and made an appointment for a consultation. Today was that appointment. When he was done consulting, he asked if I wanted to do it today, we could, or come back another time. Since I'm all about making efficient use of my trips to town, I said, "yes, do it today!" So he did!

It felt like a bee sting (in a what seemed like a million places!) then he'd ruuuuuuuub the area really hard. I'll prolly be bruised from him rubbing! Before I left the house, I had an e-mail from a friend that had the big-honkin' varicose vein SURGERY done. My procedure was for spider veins, and that is simply saline injections into the veins.

The most annoying part is having those disposable Ace-like bandages on both legs from my ankes up to my hoo-hoo. They're confining (the compression will help the procedure to be a success) but I was able to drive and walk. Sitting isn't as easy! He said I can remove them if they really bug me when I go to bed. I imagine it will be a little like being velcro'd to the flannel sheets, so I can see them coming off some time in the night!

I go back in a month for another treatment (much easier than today's, and that wasn't that tough), and then possibly another treatment a month after that. Procedure should last for a few years, but isn't permanent.

With any luck, I won't look like a road-map wearing a bathing suit the summer.

Mile High Airport...

Ever spent 10hrs in an airport? You get delirious and start thinking crazy. Like "good job I didn't check my luggage...I have clothes and my bathroom bag. I could stay here a couple of days."

Monday was a CF. I knew when I left San Antonio that my Denver/Sacramento flight was canceled, but I didn't press them to find me another sure-bet route, and nobody seemed to think it necessary to find another option either. So, I went to Denver. Should have only been there 1hr until my flight left. They said it was "an air-traffic issue (weather related)". Stand-by didn't work for me, and the flight that I was booked on for later in the afternoon was canceled. I waited in line (with about 200 others) for an hour and a half to talk to an agent. While in line, I talked to a United CSR that was able to book me on another flight so when I got to the counter all she had to do was print my boarding passes. Success at last.

I went to the bathroom just to give myself something to do. I bought (and read) two magazines. I had two meals there, and could have had a third but was too anxious to just get out of there.

When I finally got to Los Angeles (yeah, still 300 miles from home), the travel gods were smiling on me. A flight to Sacramento was boarding right then. And they had room for me! Next to the guy that weighed at least 450lbs. I didn't care. I just wanted to be home. Thankfully, he was chatty and we talked it up for the hour-long ride.

A long day when you get up in San Antonio at 4:20 a.m. cst, and don't get in your house until 10:50 p.m. pst. Then there was e-mail to check, and a quick glance through the mail.

It's good to be home.

Chick weekend...

My flight leaves in 6hrs. I'm going to San Antonio to spend the weekend with the most fabulous sister-in-law in the world. Well. Future SIL...she'll marry my BIL in May. My peeps are staying behind!

We have an extravagant weekend planned! Tomorrow, we'll go to the new house and see what her new couch's look like and the sheers she already has up, then to Lowe's to get paint, out to lunch, and then see the new Matthew McConaugheyheyhey movie, "Failure To Launch".

On Saturday, we'll begin painting the girls' rooms. Amanda wants orange, Amy wants yellow. So, being the favorite auntie, that is what they'll get, and we'll go to Target to find decorative things to go with. Saturday night Cowtown Stacy and her family will be in SA! The plan is to meet them for dinner.

Sunday it's back to the house for more painting. Hopefully we can get the girls' rooms done, and map out a plan for the other rooms. BIL can do that work when he returns stateside! I'm sleeping with his bride-to-be, but I'm not gonna do ALL of his work!

I. Can't. Wait.

Wheeeeeeeeee

Purge

When I return from my trip next week, I MUST clean out my closet. There are so many clothes that I don't wear (even if they DID fit).

Before that, however, I need to get a plastic container from Target. The utensil drawer in the kitchen has a lot of stuff in it. I'm going to pick out what I KNOW we use, then put the rest in an easy-to-get-to spot. If we REALLY use it, we can add it back to the drawer. If not, it can go to the yard-sale pile.

Two strangers and a wedding...

I'm a 'flipper' of the car radio, however in the past few weeks I've gotten hooked on the local 'Classic Rock' station. They carry the Mark and Brian show in the morning, and M&B did "Two Strangers and a Wedding". They interviewed 'brides' and picked one who then interviewed all of the grooms (brides and grooms had to fill out an application, and staffers picked the final candidates). The 'bride' got to pick the groom after interviewing all 'grooms' on the air.

Today was the wedding. I cried at their wedding - driving 60 mph down the road so I could log on to the website and watch! I've got 'em live on the 'puter, and am listening on the radio! Sheesh...what a loser I am!

Certainly a non-traditional way of taking a spouse! Wouldn't it be great if this is a match that lasts a lifetime?

Lemulation...sorta...

I read my friends blog today about his days being a safety officer when he was in elementary school. It reminded me of something similar at my elementary school...gasp...from 32 years ago!

As I recall, you had to be in 5th or 6th grade, and you were called "traffic patrol". There was this BRIGHT orange 'belt' that also crossed your chest on the diagonal. We had yellow caps (sorta like sailors) that had blue piping on them. I can't rememember how many cross walks we did, but I think it was only two. We had to carry metal 'Stop' signs to our corners. In the winter, we were had yellow slickers to complete the ensemble.

That and cafeteria duty (we scooped hot lunch on to trays with separated areas for all items...I LOVE that...don't want my food to touch to this day!) were very important jobs, and the teachers kinda planned the days tasks so those that had to 'work' could get to their 'jobs' in a timely way.

Sadly, that school met the wrecking ball because it was a brick two-story, built before all of the California earthquake standards were adopted. It was a really cool school, architecturally. There is 'sister' school to it in the area. One day I should take pictures of THAT.

Pants

Have I mentioned that I hate to shop?

It doesn't help that I look like a cow and all of the cute things are meant for people that are 3-4 sizes smaller. Ugh. Doesn't help that "petite" pants usually fit great and the length is fine until I put shoes on. Then it looks as if I'm waiting for a flood.

So today I went to The Gap and Eddie Bauer outlet stores. I was looking for jeans, maybe some new tops, and also keeping my eye open for a dress to wear to a May wedding in Las Vegas.

In the women's section, in both stores, the women's jeans (well, a LOT of pants) have "stretch" in them. That always feels great when you first put them on, but by the end of the day, they're too loose and, really, the fabric just doesn't look right. I ended up with jeans from the mens section! I can get them in the length that fits! No 'highwaters' and no having to hem the ones that fit everywhere but the length! Only problem is that the waist isn't more 'fitted'. Shouldn't matter, not like I tuck in my shirt or wear cropped tops!

The dress shopping was a dud. Things were too casual, and/or too 'winter-y' still.

I also got a SCREAMIN' loud orange-y/coral short-sleeved shirt!

Wheeeeeeee!
