Lemulation...sorta...
I read my friends blog today about his days being a safety officer when he was in elementary school. It reminded me of something similar at my elementary school...gasp...from 32 years ago!
As I recall, you had to be in 5th or 6th grade, and you were called "traffic patrol". There was this BRIGHT orange 'belt' that also crossed your chest on the diagonal. We had yellow caps (sorta like sailors) that had blue piping on them. I can't rememember how many cross walks we did, but I think it was only two. We had to carry metal 'Stop' signs to our corners. In the winter, we were had yellow slickers to complete the ensemble.
That and cafeteria duty (we scooped hot lunch on to trays with separated areas for all items...I LOVE that...don't want my food to touch to this day!) were very important jobs, and the teachers kinda planned the days tasks so those that had to 'work' could get to their 'jobs' in a timely way.
Sadly, that school met the wrecking ball because it was a brick two-story, built before all of the California earthquake standards were adopted. It was a really cool school, architecturally. There is 'sister' school to it in the area. One day I should take pictures of THAT.
