Snow day.

The closest ski area to home is an hour and a half away. Today was their last day of the season, so we went! We skied until our legs were tired, about 3hrs, and came home! I wore blue jeans and a sleeveless shirt! Temps were expected to be near 70 up there today. It was a perfect day! The snow was a little soft, but plenty of it, and well groomed.

Came home and considered jumping in the pool, but it's not quite warm enough! Guess I'll wash Greg's car since we took the long way home, and now it's dusty. If I didn't have to drive it for the next few days, I'd probably leave it!

There. That's done.

Wasn't on my 'to do' list, but I stopped at Home Depot today and bought a gallon of paint and some plants for a 'color bowl' pot that was needing something! Couldn't just get plants for that, however! The salvia I got (3 pots) goes perfectly in one spot thats been needing something for a while! Maybe if I go to Home Depot every 5 days, in two weeks I'll have some of the bare spots filled in and looking decent for Mother's Day.

Pool water is up to 78. Still not warm enough for me, but when I was sweating like a whore in church after doing all that planting, I considered jumping in!

Next I'll tape off the baseboards in preparation for painting the hall tonight. Wonder how far I can actually get.

Amazing how much I get done when Greg is out of town. I should REALLY go crazy in the next 4 1/2 days since he's out of the COUNTRY!! Keeping busy will make it easy to not watch what is going on in the Middle East. lalalalalalalalalalalalala

Jon Lovitz

In case you live under a rock and don't feel the need to watch t.v. on a regular basis, you probably already know that Jon Lovitz is doing commercial's for Subway.

A couple weeks ago I saw him in the movie "The Benchwarmer's" and he. just. cracks. me. up!! I'm not sure that I would ever go to a movie just because he is in it, but he can do some physical comedy and have a look on his face that almost brings a tear to my eye.

Hmmmmm...maybe I need to see if NetFlix has old SNL stuff from back when he was part of that ensemble cast.

Change of plans...

Yes. Change IS good!

Hair appointment for 9a had to be rescheduled. Much as I NEED to see the hairdresser, I also need to cut the grass, plan something for dinner, go to the grocery store, address the soccer pile on the dining room table, and begin the process of laying out a photo album so I can see what pics I need to scan/duplicate.

Changing that list from 'to do' to 'done' will be SO great!

Sick

It started with a sore throat yesterday morning. I thought it could be from the bleach fumes, or grass cutting, or beer, or crying from the night before. It didn't get better as the day went on. I awoke in the middle of the night with a scorching sore throat and a throbbing head. Got up and took two ibuprofen and got a cough drop to suck on in my sleep.

Got up this a.m., took another ibuprofen, and a couple hours later had an Airborne tablet (in water...it makes you foam at the mouth if you take the tablet directly!) I've taken it easy most of the day. Which really irks the hell out of me. It was a good day wasted! I have plants that need to go in the ground, laundry that I started, but haven't finished, and there is crap all over the counters and coffee table (thanks to the b-day party DS attended yesterday).

I guess the one good thing is that I likely won't go to the gym tomorrow morning. All I need is an excuse!

I hate being sick. And all because on Friday I was crowing about how I haven't been sick all winter.

Hmpf.

What's in your shower...

Friends of mine took inventory of the bottles lined up in their shower for hair and skin needs. I'm gonna copy that, cuz maybe by having it in print will finally move me to do something with one container in mine...

One each bottle (Costco-size...which isn't as big as it used to be) of Thermasilk shampoo and conditioner

One bottle of Head and Shoulders...DH uses this. I don't think he has dandruff, and I can't stand the smell of it, but he likes it...sigh...

One foamy pump bottle of gentle face cleanser

One bottle of Bath and Body Works "Warm Vanilla Sugar" shower gel

One can of some sort of shaving cream (that DS used to wash his hair the other week. ??? Freak)

One bar of soap, taken from a Marriott hotel

And finally, one bottle of Head and Shoulders CONDITIONER because DH shouldn't do that sort of shopping...dumbass. Thought of using it as a shave cream, but I imagine that the conditioner is just as offensive smelling as the shampoo is, so now it will have to be thrown out. I hate to waste stuff (which is why I also hate for people to give me gifts...but that's another blog entry)

Oh...and the other thing in the shower? Soap scum. I really need to get in there and clean it...it feels nasty on my feet.

Teeth...

There is a weather person (don't know if she's a real meteorologist) named Eileen on one of our local channels. I wonder if her teeth could possibly be larger. Something about her mouth bugs me to the point of feeling the need to watch another channel.

Teeth. The first thing I notice about everyone.

I turned a few heads today...

I went out on two separate occasions today for a walk around the 'hood. Both times there were moms and kids at the park bus stop (one for late k leaving, the other for all kids coming home). It's been a long, wet winter/spring and today was gorgeous. I haven't seen many of these moms since last fall except for in passing on the street in our vehicles.

What got their attention today? I was pushing a baby stroller with a 3 month old in it! Sweet baby girl that lives across the street. Babies are great. Even better when they belong to someone else! And the possibilty of getting local tongues wagging, even better!

Routine...

The alarm clock went at 6:00. Really, 5:45...I set the clock fast so I can hit the "snooze" button. Spring Break is over. It was hard rolling out of the rack, well except that I had to pee, but once I got up and got the day started it was good to be back in the saddle. I've been to the gym, showered, put two loads of laundry in the washer and had breakfast.

Now I'm waiting for grandma. DH picked up g'ma (86) on Saturday so she could go with us to the Easter shindig yesterday. Out of convenience (read, so dh could drink wine at Easter dinner), I'm taking her home tomorrow. Don't get me wrong, I love grandma dearly. What I wanna know is WHY does she talk DURING t.v. shows? That's what commercials are for! Sheesh! I know she's lonely and glad to have people to talk TO, but when Desparate Housewives is on, shutcher damn cake hole!!!

I have a bunch of stuff on my 'to do' list for today. One thing I might need to add is "sit outside for a while". You see, for the first time since Thursday, I can see the sun! The best part is that its supposed to stick around until next Saturday. Of course. I was thinking of taking DS snow skiing on Sunday...gonna rain that day too. That means snow in the mountains. I've driven in enough snow, thankyouMassachusettsverymuch, and I don't enjoy skiing when it's cold and snowy. Maybe we'll have to go to the go-kart race place. It will be cheaper too.

Ask Jeeves...

Today, Boy Genius (10) comes out of the office where I knew he had been on the computer. He plopped himself down on the couch (spring break, and he was still in his pajamas) and said, "Is the Easter Bunny real?" Uhhh...uhhh... I was totally caught off guard! He's asked before about Santa, and the reply was "if you don't believe, you don't receive." Well, he really pressed me for an answer about the Easta Bunny. So, I put it back on him and said, "what do you think?" He said, "I think it's you, and I have evidence." Huh. "Evidence, eh? What might that be?" He says, "I know it's you, cuz I went to askjeeves.com and it said the Easter Bunny isn't real. Don't lie to me mom."

Methinks I don't need to worry about getting out this week to get stuff for his Easter basket!

Do I dare?

Today, we had our first day of sunshine and no rain in I don't know how many days! I cut the grass. It's still daylight and sunny. My car is dirty. My father's car is dirty (I have it whilst he and his wife are on a cruise). I'm tempted to wash both of them. I fear that if I do, it will snow.

*shrug* I've lived in the snow. I think I'll chance it.

Texted...

Incoming: "Are you flooded"

Outgoing: "Not even wet yet"

The timing of it just tickled my funny bone! I had just arrived at the home of my friend, S. He was once my boyfriend, ages ago. Now I'm helping him grieve the passing of his girlfriend of nearly 10 years by putting a photo album of her life together.

He shares my twisted sense of humor, and we had a good laugh before we got to the serious business ahead of us.

Timing really IS everything. (thanks for that, N!)

Had lunch with a friend today...

Well. Not really. He called while I was having lunch, by myself, at Quiznos. I offered to get something for him, but he didn't want me to drive to where he was in the (still) pouring rain. So instead, we racked up the minutes on my shitty cell phone plan (really need to fix that).

To say we have mostly led polar opposite lives as adults is almost an understatement! The story (drama) he told me about today makes me so sad. Sad for the people (that I don't know) involved (his son and the dysfunctional members of his sons mother's extended family), but sad because I'm sure the saga that he described must happen to a lot of people.

People that have drug/alcohol issues, virtually no skills, so limited ability to make a middle-class living, but yet these people can procreate. "Parents/Adults" that leave kids to not only fend for themselves, but perhaps care for much younger siblings. And leave them with little to no resources. Forcing the one in charge to figure out what to do with nothing. Then, in desparation, going to a store to steal stuff like diapers and bread.

Ugh.

Makes me so sad. Makes my "let me step in and fix this" instinct kick in. But I can't, really. All involved will have to muddle through, and hopefully they will make the right choices. All I can do is offer moral support, as it isn't my problem to solve. Well, that isn't "all" I can do. I can pray that they do the right thing, and I can pray harder that I'm never in a similar situation. And I can be ever-so-thankful that it ISN'T my deal to manage.

Because it's the law...

I am forever amazed by people that don't think the rules apply to them.

Follow them. They are there for a reason. It keeps order to the world. It makes me better able to respect you.

Trust and respect. Key components that, to me, go hand-in-hand. They provide the base for all else. Most important, love. Followed closely by honor.
