Old friends...
I met an old friend for coffee the other day. Well, actually, we both had hot chocolate. We got caught up on a lot that has happened in the last 23 years, and as I was sitting there listening to him, we could not have led any more different lives if we tried. I was also thinking that his life is pretty much as I had imagined it would be. There isn't much that we have in common anymore, but at one time we sure did. We were once boyfriend/girlfriend and we lived together for 3 years. I'm hoping that now we can just be friends. I think he needs a friend, as he recently lost his significant other to cancer. She was diagnosed at stage 4, and six weeks later she was dead. The day before his birthday.
He said he's going to get rid of his house phone. Since she passed, it hasn't rang. I don't think he really has any/many friends. I would be happy to help him sort through her things and pack up/haul it away. I'd be happy to make a scrapbook album for him if he has pictures (she has older children, and they may have gotten some of them to do something for the memorial). He's planning to move away with his mom and brother, cross country to West Virginia, because there is nothing left here for him.
I'd like to be his friend. He sure needs one.
