Songs you know by heart...

Yeah, I know, Jimmy Buffet has already used that line...

Anyhow, a couple weeks ago, Stacy blogged something that had "name four songs you know by heart". I couldn't lemulate that one cuz I wasn't sure what songs I DO know by heart! Ironically, right this very minute, on the Classic Rock-n-Roll station is the band "Heart" and one of their many songs that I know by heart, 'Crazy On You'. In fact, there are MANY songs I know by heart, and I realized it one day when I was listening to Yahoo's LaunchCast radio. It seems, however, most of the songs I know have one thing in common. They are from the late 70's/early 80's when we were still listening to LP's. Casette's were just gaining popularity (I never had an 8-track), and some of us renegades were actually recording those LP's onto casette's cuz we had 'arrived' and were able to put an am/fm-casette radio in our cars!

But, to go back to pre-driver's license days, I used to play one side of an album and set the stereo to play it over and over again. I'd sit on the floor with headphones on playing solitaire and WEARING THOSE ALBUMS OUT! I'm sure I know every song on Elton John's 'Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player', Carole King's 'Rhymes and Reason's', Doobie Brothers 'Captain and Me' and 'What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits', Loggin's and Messina's 'Full Sail' and a Live album that I don't recall the name. Oh, and there was one side of Janis Joplin's Pearl album. You know...the side that has 'Me and Bobby McGee' on it! It never cesases to amaze me how you can hear a song from back in the day, and instantly be transported back to what you were doing/wearing/dating and remember things with such clarity!

I have cd's by current artists too. However, I don't know all of the lyrics to every song on those cd's. I wonder why? Perhaps there are too many other things going on that prevent me from reading jacket liners and the accompnaying lyricss. Maybe the songs aren't that good!

Think I'll find something 'vintage' and play that while I clean.

Maybe I should go get myself some 'Cheap Sunglasses'.
