Did she really say that?

It's happened before, and it happened again this past week. Riding in the car with my mother who is, well, 'simple'...and I don't mean that in a bad way. I don't recall her exact words, but the essence of it was that she thought when you put the car on 'cruise control' that you don't have to stear. Oy. She does not have a driver's license or a vehicle. She used to be a fairly good driver, back in the day when you didn't need no stinkin' cruise control, but she was a Nervous Nelly. It really is best, in more ways than one, that she doesn't drive anymore.

Yesterday we were driving to Lake Tahoe. Interstate 80, heading east. The road sign said 'Bridge May Be Icy When Road Is Dry'. The question from her? Why would the bridge be icy? Uhhhhhhhhh...Ma...when it's 80 FREAKIN' DEGREES IN THE MOUNTAINS, THERE IS NO ICE!!! But I didn't say that. Instead, I said, the signs are there year-round. It would be too costly to put them up every winter and take them down every summer. But in the winter, they get freezing temperatures from the top and the bottom so any wetness has the potential to freeze, and stay frozen, for quite a while.

Sometimes it's hard to remember who is the parent and who is the child. But really. I don't mean that in a bad way!
